The project is part of the Västra Vilunda masterplan. This centrally located area is developed from suburb to city through a mixed densification with housing and businesses. The zoning plan aims to create modern urban environments with activated public spaces through a mix of activities and varied buildings. Transparent plinths facing the street contribute to an improved relation between inside and outside. 

A cohesive but varied building ensemble

The project consists of two buildings with a common raised courtyard. One volume has an L-shape, marking the corner towards the intersection where the park meets Drabantgatan. The volume opens up to the southeast. The other volume marks the corner towards the parking lot. Together, they form a residential ensemble with an open relationship to the courtyard. This green common space is raised in relation to the public space and forms in that sense a natural boundary between public and private.

A harmonious color palette

The buildings have a calm and balanced composition of windows, horizontal and vertical bands and decorative elements such as shallow balconies and facade panels. The narrow, tall windows and facade columns emphasize the facades verticality. Small variations, such as the grain size of the plaster, the width of the façade columns and the window size, create a nuanced and balanced whole. With the help of indentations, the building volumes are divided into smaller parts. The simple incision creates a greater variation in the street scape and reduces the scale of the volumes.

Architecture + Project Management

After several years of close collaboration with clients and contractors, UCA has implemented the project management discipline in the company. For this project, the office has created a unique package solution together with Savana, containing architecture, planning and project management. In this role the principal architect serves as a bridge between the office's design team, client, contractor and collaborators, during the entire process.
