With careful precision the new church is placed within the borders of the terrain where the old church of Våler burnt down. By transforming the footprint of the old church into a ‘memory-pond’ and locating the new church in the same axis as past, present and future are harmoniously connected.
The church itself has a straightforward layout with three main indoors spaces, the entrance hall, the main church room and the back of house. The entrance gives access to an inner courtyard while the main room opens up towards the cemetery.
The sculptural building forms a landmark for the region, not just as a religious center, but as a new meeting point for the community. The building can accommodate all kind of activities, like conferences, concerts, celebrations or movies.
