Situated on the Island of Viggsö, this summer house overlooks panoramic views over the Stockholm archipelago. The property has been in the family for a long time and the starting point of this project was an old summer house that used to stand on the exact same place. The architecture is responsive to the history of the site and there’s a resemblance between the old and the new, although the new house has its own identity. Details of the former summer house are brought back to life in a subtle way, the color of the window frames, the wooden facade and the bay window.
The house is set on a natural plateau, almost floating on a wooden deck, facing the sea in south west. Both the floor plan and the section is organised in two divisions, one functional and one completely open. The functional part of the house is divided into bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and storage space while the open one is a social free space with a ceiling height of 5.5 meters.
All interior walls and ceilings are clad with aligning white wooden panels, which gives the interior both a calm and sculptural expression. Window positions are deliberately designed to capture some of the many oak trees surrounding the house or panoramic views of the glimmering sea.
